It takes a certain kind of person to work in sales (believe us, we know) and celebrities are no exception, from selling pens over the phone to door-to-door insurance, they’ve clawed their way to the top. Here are four celebrities you didn’t know worked in sales before hitting it big time.
Johnny Depp’s first job was selling personalised ball point pens over the phone. While it wasn’t the most exciting job he’s ever had (no surprises) it did give him an opportunity to practice his acting skills. He often tried out different accents over the phone, just to make the call a little more enjoyable.
Alongside a stint at being a bicycle delivery person, Jennifer Aniston tried out telemarketing, selling time shares in the Poconos. She had later admitted that she was awful at the job and often ended up hanging up on prospects.
George Clooney told a US chat show how he’d once worked as a door-to-door salesman selling insurance, making a sale on his first day. Again, it wasn’t his most exciting job, but there is a neighbourhood out there that has had the privilege of George Clooney knocking on their door.
The Jurassic Park actor started off in stationary telesales and hated every minute (just like Johnny Depp). He has since gone on to star in over seventy films in the last forty years.
But, funnily enough, you can now buy Jeff Goldblum themed stationary… Swings and roundabouts…
So if you’re wanting to make it big time in Hollywood you may want to consider starting in sales, it appears to have been a good omen for some!
